HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT COMBINATION

Creating the perfect candle scent is like crafting a beautiful melody—each note plays a role in the overall experience. To make sure your fragrance isn’t too faint or overpowering, here’s how to balance top, middle, and base notes when choosing your custom blend:

1. Understanding the Scent Layers

• Top Notes – The first impression of your candle. These are light, fresh, and evaporate quickly (e.g., citrus, fruits, herbs).

• Middle Notes (Heart Notes) – The main body of the fragrance, lasting longer and providing depth (e.g., florals, spices, gourmands).

• Base Notes – The foundation that lingers after the candle is extinguished. These are rich, warm, and grounding (e.g., vanilla, musk, woods).

2. How to Pick a Balanced Blend

To ensure your candle isn’t too faint or overpowering, follow these guidelines when choosing scents:

• Start with 1–2 top notes – Light and inviting but not too sharp (e.g., lemon + strawberry for a fruity freshness).

• Choose 1–2 middle notes – This should be the strongest part of your blend (e.g., cinnamon + caramel for warmth).

• Pick 1–2 base notes – These should be rich but not too heavy (e.g., vanilla + brown sugar for depth).

3. Avoiding Common Mistakes

• Too faint? Your base and middle notes may be too weak. Add a deeper scent like vanilla, musk, or wood to anchor the blend.

• Too strong? Overpowering scents like cinnamon or chocolate should be softened with a fresh top note like citrus or herbs.

• Too sweet? Balance with a hint of spice or a fresh, zesty note.

• Too sharp? Add a creamy or sugary note to smooth it out.

4. Example Blends for Inspiration

• Gourmand Lovers: French vanilla (top), caramel (middle), brown sugar (base)

• Fresh & Fruity: Lemon (top), strawberry cheesecake (middle), vanilla (base)

• Warm & Cozy: Cinnamon (top), gingerbread (middle), marshmallow (base)

• Rich & Decadent: Dark chocolate (top), coffee (middle), butterscotch (base)

With the right balance, your candle will have layers of fragrance that develop beautifully as it burns—never too weak, never too strong. Need help choosing? Fill out our form with your favorite scents and add in the notes area “SOS” and I’ll help you balance it out.
